Humble beginnings
James Fletcher and his brothers began Fletcher Bros Ltd in 1915, from a wooden villa in Dunedin. Their journey has made Fletcher Building and its brands a trusted part of many people’s lives today. Fletcher’s history is diverse, many of its companies having been around even as early as the 1860s.
A household name making a comeback
In 2007, Fletcher Building Ltd bought Fair Dinkum Sheds and Shed Boss, both companies specialising in steel sheds, barns, garages, farm sheds and light industrial buildings. In 2022 it was decided to bring both brands under one name.
But what to call it?
Established in 1903 in New Zealand, many household products we grew up with were made by Cyclone. Cyclone made our rubbish bins, shopping trolleys and bicycle carriers. Early outdoor furniture and the wire racks in our ovens were made by Cyclone and bread was displayed on Cyclone wire racks in grocery stores.
The Cyclone brand also had a strong representation in farming across New Zealand since the 1950s, with deer fencing, hay barns, implement sheds and wool sheds.
So why not bring back the Cyclone name?

The name has so much history and a great reputation for being high quality, no matter what the product.
It just made sense that a strong, quality steel shed and buildings brand should carry the name, too.
Although the brand is owned by Fletcher Building, Cyclone Buildings distributors are local business owners with great reputations in the industry, building under license to Cyclone Buildings.
In 2024 after a few refinements to the old logo, Cyclone Buildings was ready to launch.
So when you choose Cyclone Buildings, you can trust that you’re not just getting a high quality product. You’ll be working with a local builder who knows your regional council requirements, understands your unique needs and preferences, and wants the same result you do – a building to be proud of.
